RER Devon Epps coverage makes it to print

I awoke this morning to find that the local alternative weekly, The Beat, has decided to reprise some of the Devon Epps coverage from the ethereal pages of this blog. The editor of the paper and I actually go back many years and have covered many of the same stories. I get the sense he's as conflicted about this particular case as I am.

I have to admit I was skeptical from the very moment this story was first reported. Until I read your entries, I thought the only problem Amanda Smith had was the car wreck reported yesterday. I'm sure this woman has a deeply disturbed and sad element in her life tucked not-so-far-away, living a life of lies and denial. Look at the pattern, and it seems to worsen. I can't imagine how troubled she must feel. Although "the truth can set you free", I doubt that will be outcome here.
